Beckton & Royal Docks Children’s Centre is a breastfeeding-friendly centre; this means that you are welcome to breastfeed your child as and when needed.
You can receive infant feeding advice from your Midwife or Health Visiting team.
We promote healthy eating and lifestyles and are proud to mention that Beckton and Royal Docks Children’s Centre has achieved the Early Start Nutrition Award – Silver demonstrating nutrition is at the heart of our practice.
This means we provide parents with information to support them in improving and maintaining the best nutrition for their children. The centre strives to provide children and their families with a whole centre approach to healthy eating by:
Leading by example on best practices for instilling healthy lifestyles for children and their families.
Providing information on nutrition, oral health, and physical activity.
There is a range of information available in the centre on healthy eating, please look at the leaflets on offer and our information boards are regularly updated with the relevant information.
We also have a range of different sessions that promote physical activity for both adults and children to enjoy! Please refer to the current activities programme for a full range of services on offer to support Healthy Lifestyles.
Beckton & Royal Docks Children’s Centre work in partnership with the Health Visiting Team, they offer a range of developmental clinics which include 12-16 week check, 1-year check and 2-year check. These are appointments only and you would normally receive your letter in the post with the Ages & Stages Questionnaire. If your child has not had these checks and is of the appropriate age please contact your Health Visiting Team for an appointment.
Please ensure that you bring your child’s Red Health Book with you.
The Health Visiting team also offer groups around healthy weight, healthy nutrition, school readiness and minor childhood illnesses. These groups are designed to offer you the correct information as outlined by the department of health and support you at the different stages of your child’s development. Please refer to our timetable for a full list of services.
All children under five years, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding and live in Newham are able to collect free vitamins from the Children’s Centre.
